Why is olive oil so healthy?
It may seem contrary to popular belief, but the benefits of olive oil from fat. In fact, olive oil is a healthy fat you can eat. Although everyone knows too much fat can grow while contributing to heart disease, many people do not realize that very little fat is not healthy. Your body needs sufficient essential fatty acids to function properly and stay healthy.
The Fats can be divided into 2 key categories: saturated and unsaturated. Saturated fats are most doctors and nutritionists avoided because it will tell you are proven to increase levels of cholesterol that can contribute to heart disease. The other kind of fats are unsaturated. These fats are presented in two forms: polyunsaturated and monounsaturated fats, and both are healthy fats in moderation.
What makes oil special is that oil is a fat monounsaturated. This fat has been shown that no less than just your bad cholesterol (LDL), but may also increase levels of good cholesterol (HDL). This oil has also been incredible shown to help lower blood pressure and protect against stroke. This is good news for everyone, especially those as heart disease and anyone who needs to see your cholesterol.
Olive oil is not only healthy, but it is delicious and popular Italian cooking oil and Mediterranean dishes. You can add olive oil in the kitchen once you know what to buy and how to cook with it.
What are the differences between different types of olive oil?
When buying olive oil you will see that there are four main types:
- Virgin Extra is the first press of olives from the best and richest in flavor and color. This is the highest quality and most expensive, so the the best extra virgin oils are often used to drizzle over salads and finished dishes or sauces for bread instead of baking.
- Oil Virgin olive oil is a high quality that is produced from the first press of olives, but contains a slightly less acidic extra virgin. You can use for cooking because it is cheaper, but still tastes good.
- Pure olive oil or olive oil is made from the second pressing of the olives, then is filtered and refined. Not even rich flavor variety of high quality but is much cheaper, therefore if the price is a concern this is a good selection of oils for cooking.
- Light Olive Oil "Do not let the name fool you. The term "light" refers only to your taste and no means less fat or calories. This is the lowest oil and therefore the quality is less expensive. It is from the last press olives, mixed with other light oils such as canola. This oil is ideal for those who want to enjoy benefits of olive oil without the strong flavor of other olive oil.
You do not need to be careful when cooking with olive oil because it has a smoke enough low and can burn at high temperatures. It is preferable to use lower temperatures, but a way around this is to mix olive oil, clarified butter (ghee) when is used for higher temperatures, but this is not the best oil for frying to choose. That would destroy the delicate flavor and healthful properties.
