Pregnancy pain relief suggestions?

I’ve been having cramps under my belly; (feels similer to growing pains/constipation.) It hurts to walk up stairs, drive over a bump in the road, lay on my side/roll over , sleep and sitting up etc. I went to a doctor and he said he’s not concerned and the baby is fine. (But it hurts!) Anyone have any safe pain relief methods to ease the pain? (I have tried a heating pad, warm bath and tylenol; hasn’t helped.)

Try colace (check with your doctor first of course, but colace is considered safe for use during pregnancy); if the pain is related to constipation you should get some relief, although it might take about a week.

To treat the pain itself, have you considered acupuncture? Many acupuncturists are accustomed to working with pregnant women — I would question any acupuncturist to whom you’re referred to make sure that’s the case with them because, as with massage, acupressure, reflexology, etc. there are points that should not be messed with during pregnancy. I know several women who saw acupuncturists during pregnancy to address various pain issues, including headaches and joint pain, although I can’t say I know of anyone who used it for the type of cramping you’re describing. While I did not personally see an acupuncturist when pregnant that was mostly because I was on bedrest a lot of the time (and my acupuncturist was up a flight of stairs to boot!), but before I was pregnant one of the things we addressed was cramping.

As far as Western medicine and medication….I’d say Tylenol is about as far as you want to go, I’m afraid. If the pain is very bad, of course talk to your doctor about it, but I’d be reluctant to use anything stronger for pain. Particularly if you’re talking about cramping or any other pains/sensations in that part of your body…you don’t want to in some way “numb” the pain, which could unwittingly mask the pain of mild contractions, etc., which of course you want to be fully aware of.
